Balanced Diet

A diet that contains all the food substances in the right proportion is called “Balanced Diet”. The diet pattern to be followed varies from individual to individual. A hard working person has to consume a lot of carbohydrate rich food whereas a body builder should eat protein rich food in large amount. Fats are reserves which are used up during period of starvation to provide energy. It has to be consumed usually in smaller amounts to avoid heart attack and obesity problems. Proteins are of two types- plant and animal protein. Vitamins are divided into A, B1, B2, B5, B6, B12, C, D, E, K, etc. A, D, E and K are fat soluble whereas B and C are water soluble vitamins. Sodium, Iron, Phosphorous, Potassium, Calcium, Magnesium are few important mineral salts required by our body. The calorie requirement varies from person to person. Carbohydrates and proteins produce equal amount of calories while fat produces twice the amount as they produce (per gm).
