Courses

In fulfilling its educational rôle, the Institute’s policy is to provide courses for its own members as part of their continuing professional development, courses of interest to curators and administrators of museums, libraries and archive and if possible to give financial support to students enrolled in an accredited course in conservation overseas. For details about bursaries, please apply to the Hon. Secretary. Because of the highly specialised level of training now required of conservator-restorers, ICHAWI  does not teach conservation techniques. It is however actively exploring the possibility of establishing a course in Preventive or Passive Conservation whereby students are introduced to the factors that damage artefacts and  how, by controlling the environment and introducing correct handling and storage techniques,  further deterioration may be prevented.

The Institute was successful in having the European Strategy for Preventive Conservation as agreed at the meeting of European states in Vantaa, Helsinki (2000) adopted as Heritage Council policy.

APPLICATIONS FOR BURSARIES FOR THE FORTHCOMING ACADEMIC YEAR MUST BE RECEIVED BY 31st JULY.
